Need Help?
As shippers, freight forwarders, and their air cargo stakeholders increasingly demand precise flight CO2 emission information, an accurate and standardized calculation methodology is critical. Adopted in 2014 and updated in 2022, the Recommended Practice 1678 for Cargo CO2 Emissions Measurement Methodology provides the most accurate calculation results and transparency to everyone interested in understanding the carbon footprint at the shipment level.
Need Help?
Aviation is committed to achieving net zero by 2050. By creating an accepted industry standard for calculating aviation’s carbon emissions, the industry provides transparency in calculating cargo environmental impact when flying.
IATA Recommended Practice
The IATA Cargo Services Conference adopted the Recommended Practice 1678 for CO2 Emissions Measurement Methodology in March 2014. The document was developed by the IATA Air Cargo Carbon Footprint (ACCF) working group and endorsed by ICAO’s Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP) in 2016.
The RP1678 is the global standard to measure air cargo carbon footprint at the shipment level; also recognized as the reference methodology for air cargo by the Global Logistics Emissions Council (GLEC) in their framework for logistics emissions calculation methodologies.
In 2022, the IATA Cargo Services conference adopted a series of updates to RP1678 to align with the newly developed Recommended Practice Per-Passenger CO2 Calculation Methodology.
